Differences in Inpatient and Outpatient Care

Outpatient Care in Washington StateWhen seeking treatment for addiction, it can be difficult to know where to turn. In many cases, we see clients who know they need to change their ways, but who also struggle to leave school, work or family for an extended period of time. Whether you are able to commit to an inpatient program or feel an outpatient option will work better for you, Free by the Sea is here to help. So, what are the differences between inpatient and outpatient care? Allow us to explain.

Understanding Inpatient Care

With inpatient care, our clients stay in our residential facilities for the duration of their residential treatment. Once settled in, clients will participate in a treatment program that involves group therapy, 12-step meetings, individual counseling, and educational group sessions. Topics covered in therapy include:

  • Addiction Education
  • Life Skills
  • Anger Management

Also included in the program are meditation and art therapy sessions, to more fully address our clients unique needs.

Understanding Outpatient Care

Unlike inpatient care, with outpatient care, clients continue to live at home, while receiving intensive support from our campus. Many people, even those who have not abused drugs and alcohol for many years, still benefit from the additional support that outpatient care can provide. Although this is not an ideal option for everyone, it can work well for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Would otherwise be unable to receive treatment due to family, school or work commitments
  • Live in an environment free from alcohol or drugs–and those who use them–while outside of our facilities
  • Seek to maintain a high level of privacy in regards to their need for treatment
